Home Tips

My grandmother always juiced chestnuts and put them in BOILING water at home

Make the most eco-friendly laundry detergent that also resists tough stains!

You will see that it was really worth harvesting chestnuts and using them for this purpose.

The laundry will be perfectly clean and you will also save money.

Chestnut Detergent
Prepare a suitable saucepan and pour water into it.

Then add the chestnuts and boil them for 15 minutes.

Cut the skin and remove the white pulp.

Place the peeled chestnuts in a glass jar and cover with lukewarm water.

After 2 hours, crush and drain the chestnuts, carefully squeezing out all the liquid.

You can store it in the refrigerator for 4 days.

Use the same way as regular detergents.

Pour this agent into the dispenser or into the drum of the washing machine.

Chestnuts effectively treat food stains and all types of grease.

Few people know it, but chestnuts are a great help for laundry and washing.

You can even replace them with common chemical cleaning products.

So it’s worth taking a walk in the park and picking up a few chestnuts, not just to make decorations.

Why are chestnuts suitable for washing?
Horse chestnut (horse chestnut) contains up to 15% saponins, which are a natural detergent and foaming agent.

Saponin is a surface-active substance that effectively removes grease, dirt and impurities from clothing.

The higher the saponin content of the plant, the more effectively it will clean.

It takes a little work to release the saponins from chestnuts.

However, this process is worth it because the detergent obtained is stable, effective and almost completely free.

Chestnut powder agent

We need:
3-5 kg chestnuts (horse chestnuts)

hammer

kitchen towel

high performance mixer

a large glass cup

2 small glass containers

Hot water

Approach:
Collect enough chestnuts and then you can get to work.

Wrap a handful of chestnuts in a cloth and hit them hard with a hammer to break them into small pieces.

Alternatively, you can cut the chestnuts into small pieces.

Then put them in a blender, mix and repeat this operation for all the chestnuts.

Spread the powder obtained on a sheet and dry.

You can do this on the car dashboard on a sunny day or in the oven at the lowest temperature.

Drying times vary but at least a full day in the sun or 8 hours in the oven.

Now pour the chestnut powder into a large airtight container.

Keep it out of reach of children and pets.

You can keep it virtually indefinitely.

Note: Thoroughly clean all tools, equipment, containers and surfaces that have been in contact with chestnuts, as they contain toxins that are dangerous for the skin and our body.

The powdered chestnuts themselves are only the base of the detergent.

Now it’s time to move on to step two.

At least 30 minutes before washing, pour 3.5 tablespoons (or ¼ cup) of chestnut powder into a container and add 2/3 cup of hot water.

Pour the resulting liquid into another glass container.

This milky, foamy liquid is your brown laundry detergent.

Use it immediately or put it in the refrigerator and you can keep it for about a week.

Use about 1/3 cup per wash.

If you wash more than 2 loads of laundry per week, prepare more detergent at a time.

Chestnuts in a linen bag
If you don’t want to spend time preparing the powder, this is the simplest option.

Simply cut the chestnuts into small pieces and put them in a canvas bag.

Then put it in the drum of the washing machine with the laundry.

This option mainly works for lightly soiled items .

It’s not as effective as making a powder, but it takes less time.

What not to wash in chestnuts?
Like any plant-based cleaner, this no-waste cleaner is not intended for cloth diapers or your baby’s heavily soiled, stained clothes.

If you are washing whites, add sodium percarbonate to the mixture.

Then use chestnuts
Against spiders
When it’s cold outside, spiders seek shelter in dry, warm places.

That is why they appear more often in our homes.

We have a great method for keeping spiders out of your home.

Next time you go for a walk, pick some chestnuts.

These fall fruits not only make a beautiful decoration, but they are also great for repelling spiders.

Even before autumn finally sets in outside, distribute them along the entire length of the windowsill , also in other places through which spiders could enter.

This natural remedy acts as an extremely effective repellent.

Why do chestnuts on the windowsill scare away spiders?
The secret lies in their aroma , which immediately makes spiders lose the desire to appear near these brown fruits.

Thanks to this you will keep them at a safe distance and not only will you not have to live with the unpleasant feeling of a spider appearing somewhere in your house, but you will also avoid the cobwebs that the spiders would leave behind them.

If you want to make this method even more effective, you can poke small holes in the chestnuts with a toothpick or knife.

By creating holes in the chestnuts, the substances responsible for their aroma are released more quickly.

In addition to chestnuts, acorns also have a similar effect.

Try this method and see for yourself that it really works perfectly.

The next day, boil the liquid and add the hot preparation to the bath.

On the face

Then wash thoroughly with lukewarm water.
